Your constitution is Pitta-Kapha, governing both transformation & stability. Your personality type is The Cultivator with qualities from both Pitta (the leader) and Kapha (the nurturing one).

With this Bi-Dosha, you would want to pacify the two different Doshas by season: Kapha during the cooler months and Pitta during the warmer months).  Pitta-Kapha types are are grounded, hardworking, and powerful (think of the power behind a volcano, with both earth and fire elements).  Pitta’s fiery nature is grounded by Kapha’s stability, creating the ability to move mountains (figuratively of course).

A healthy person with a Pitta-Kapha predominant constitution has a strong, well-built frame.  This Bi-Dosha creates dualities with a resilient, competitive (Pitta) side, with a calm, laid back (Kapha) demeanor. They are driven by passion and have the perseverance to see through long projects and can stick with the same job for years.  They are typically “action-oriented” especially in care-taking roles, and enjoy hobbies such as: gardening, cooking, carpentry etc.  Pitta-Kapha's have an iron-will and open heart, with a dependable shoulder you can cry on. They put their heart behind their actions.

How do you know when Pitta-Kapha is imbalanced?

Pitta-Kapha's imbalance can be seen in the bouts lethargy, weight gain, and being overly critical/judgmental with inconsistent elimination patterns.  Depending on the season as noted above, one will see different imbalances (see Pitta and Kapha separately).

Tips & tricks for when imbalanced:

1.  Lifestyle:

Keeping the fire lit, but not all consuming is essential for this Bi-Dosha. Balancing the Earth, water, and fire. Stimulating and changing activities will keep Pitta-Kapha's on their toes and prevent stagnation. Take a road trip, try a new hobby, try something (anything) new. Sleep sure to get adequate sleep, ideally going to bed 10/11pm and rising early to avoid sluggishness.

2.  Exercise:

Balance is key. Find a medium for active and relaxing actives. Balance out soul cycle, or kickboxing class with yin yoga or time with Mama earth (ie..gardening, hiking). Work hard, play hard.

3.  Diet:

  • Bitter, astringent, and cooling foods will soothe Pitta-Kapha
  • Eat in season
  • Meals should be regular, with the biggest meal of the day being Lunch
  • Pacifying foods: Grains (like quinoa and wild rice), light and cooling fruits (like apples, blueberries, cherries),and cooked vegetables are great meal options
  • Room temperature water, not iced or boiling hot
