Your constitution is Vata, governing flow & movement. Your personality type is The Creative One with overall qualities of cold, light, dry, rough, irregular, mobile, quick, and changeable.

Vata is responsible for all of the movements that take place within the body -- from how we walk, how we breathe, and how we eliminate.  When it is well-behaved, its specialty is maintaining a kind of regularity to these movements, while allowing for a healthy amount of creativity within the established rhythm.

A healthy person with a Vata-predominant constitution is creative and often a "big picture" kind of person.  They often multi-task and have a tendency to be hyper-aware, with a keen sense of awareness for their environment and those around them.

How do you know when Vata is imbalanced?

The home site of Vata dosha in the body is the large intestine, so when Vata accumulates too much, it typically shows as constipation.  As the Vata continues to get out of hand, signs will appear other places as well, in the form of insomnia, shoulder aches, and indecisiveness.

Tips & tricks for when imbalanced:

1.  Lifestyle:

Rest is the number one medicine for calming Vata.  We recommend sleeping at regular and consistent hours and getting ~8 hours of sleep daily.  Regularity is the name of the game; keep to a consistent schedule to stay grounded.

2.  Exercise:

If exercising, stick to gentle workouts like yoga, swimming or light walks.  Going too hard at SoulCycle can aggravate Vata types, making imbalances even worse.

3.  Diet:

  • Smooth, moist, sweet and warm foods will soothe vata in the body.
  • Avoid: raw, dry, "airy" (e.g. bread) and too much crunchy foods like nuts.
  • Good foods: Bananas, soup, creamy yogurt, ghee and oatmeal are great meal options
  • Room temperature water, not iced or boiling hot
