#FRESHTODEATH Series: How to Sleep Your Way to the Top

Sick & tired of being sick and tired?

It’s tough being tired all day.  Low energy, emotional eating, low sex drive, etc.

Here's 5 tips we've learned in getting better and longer sleep, so you can be at your best:

1. Create a bedtime ritual.

Get home from work, dinner, 30 mins of digital, read (a real book), and sleep.  Your circadian clocks will adapt and naturally tell you, its time to get some shut-eye.

2.  Don't sleep with the enemy.  Set a 3-footstep radius and create a digital sanctuary.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Reddit, Grindr, Tinder, Pinterest, Angry Birds, Trivia Crack, Snapchat, and Gmail will all be there when you wake up in the morning.  We virtually pinky promise you.

3.  Try not to drink (or JRINK) 2 hours before bedtime.

As you get older, you just pee more often.  Don't fight it, just prevent it.  If you don't want to be a human fountain, say no to caffeine in the PM (see "nocturia").

4.  Have something to look forward to.

What's your morning luxury?  For us, its starting the AM on a fresh lemon note (it gets the digestive system going, if ya' know what we mean).  For others, it could be hitting up the gym or listening to an awesome podcast en route to work.

5.  Meditate.

No, you don't need to be in lotus position with your hands together (if you do, that's great too).  To meditate is to be mindful and totally present.  We suggest deep breathing 5x and literally, watch your own body rise & fall.  It's pretty amazing when you shift focus to your insides, check in with yourself, inevitably making more (head)space for you & others.
