5 Glowing Skin Tips for Summer

Our delightful 14th Street store manager Danni Deville was a make up artist / skin guru in one of her previous lives. Having worked for such heavyweights as Bobbi Brown, Nars and Aveda, she's full of tips for keeping your skin healthy and bright as we enter sticky-face season.

1. Hydrate

Add this to the myriad other reasons to drink tons and tons of water--particularly as summer begins and we naturally lose moisture more frequently by sweating more. For plump skin, less wrinkles, and great elasticity, drink at least 2-3 liters of water a day. This will strengthen the skin's ability to hold onto moisture so you're perennially refreshed and all kinds of glowy.

2. Exfoliate

Scrubbing those skin cells is very important, so they will create new, bright cells on your face. However, don't exfoliate every day or your skin will become "keratanized", and stop absorbing moisture. In summer, as your skin produces more oil and sweat, Danni recommends exfoliating three times a week--preferably in the evening. If you feel like making your own, combine brown sugar with honey and a little lemon for a natural DIY scrub.

3. Vitamin C

Incorporate Vitamin C into your skin regimen. It's a natural brightener, helps to gently resurface the skin, and can aid with hyperpigmentation. Use lemon juice in your toner or put together a rose hip mask for brightness and the removal of spots and scars.

4. Tea Tree Oil & Coconut Oil

These two natural ingredients have so many good "anti" properties:

  • antibacterial
  • antifungal
  • anti-inflammatory
  • anti-septic

Use together or separately as a spot treatment or for a moisturizer that won't clog your pores. For face and body.

5. Eat a balanced diet and JRINK UP

Getting those dark leafy greens (FUEL ME UP, FUEL ME UP II, FUEL ME UP III) will help hydrate and feed your skin which in turn, will make it all the glowier. CLEAN ME UP II and CLEAN ME UP III are particularly good for your skin, as lemon will detoxify (II), and Burdock Root (III) is known for its skin-clearing properties.
